Dear safety personnel, media outlets, and meteorologists:
Severe weather along with damaging winds were reported across Pennsylvania leaving hundreds of thousands without power.
The Portable Generator Manufacturers’ Association (PGMA) is urging you to include portable generator safety messaging into your broadcasts and safety messaging. PGMA has a bilingual (English/Spanish) public information officer available to discuss topics related to portable generator safety. To make an inquiry, email pete@cunninghambaron.com.
People use portable generators when their power is out because portable generators are life-saving tools in times of emergency. But if used improperly, any accumulating carbon monoxide fumes can be deadly.
IN SPANISH AND IN ENGLISH — the Portable Generator Manufacturers’ Association (PGMA) has developed free and easy to access messaging (below) for your use. We urge you to do so.
Or simply advise that, according to PGMA, the only safe place to use a portable generator is outside and far from any occupied dwelling. This requires planning. If they aren’t prepared, they can make deadly choices in desperation.
